Central to Bowen's family systems theory is the concept of differentiation, or the ability of a person to maintain a strong sense of "self" within a system (i.e., family, organization, etc.). A well-differentiated person is able to resist the lure of emotional triangles, which causes systems to mature by influencing others to take responsibility for themselves. In this class, you will have opportunity to develop skills and awareness to be more resilient as a caregiver and leader in your context.

When those wounds find adequate healing, they transform from being constraints to our compassion toward others and vocational vitality, to deep gifts for connection and shared humanity. We can become "wounded healers." The path to healing our wounds begins with growing in self-compassion. This class utilizes the Internal Family Systems model as a tool for this growth.

As a Chaplains we often encourage family members to offer their dying loved one three gifts -- saying thank you, I love you, and offering words of forgiveness or asking for forgiveness if the timing is right. During this seminar we will explore these gifts further and discuss how they can be woven into our daily life to improve relationships and to help us live each day intentionally.
